From Navy Service to Business Ownership: Jerry Powell’s Story

November 2025 - Jerry Powell served nine and a half years in the U.S. Navy as an electronics technician aboard the USS Cole. He helped take the ship overseas twice and built lifelong friendships with his shipmates.

"The military strengthens bonds, this one forged strong ones."

After careers in manufacturing and operations management, Jerry wanted to build something of his own. His Navy experience taught him discipline, pride in the uniform, attention to detail, and the value of following proven systems, skills he carries into business every day.

"The unknown was my biggest fear, but connecting with other franchisees made it feel achievable."

That connection and the strong support system behind the Men In Kilts Window Cleaning franchise, helped Jerry transition confidently into business ownership. He was drawn to the brand's proven processes, national network, and the opportunity to make a visible difference in his community.

"The most rewarding part is connecting with people, showing customers that we care and can be trusted."

Today, Jerry brings his leadership and service mindset to Men In Kilts of Colorado Springs, helping homeowners and businesses look their best while building a fun, people-first company culture.

His advice for other veterans thinking about entrepreneurship?

"Go for it, but go all in. Like being enlisted, you have to commit fully."
